Love is all around me.
Okay, you may think I am a little cheesy, but you really shouldn’t, because this film actually is, the best. I first saw this movie, many moons ago, when I was just the young age of 12. Of course, I caught it on TV, so it wasn’t too naughty, but still. I knew it was a grown up film – and I fell in love with it.
It was the end of Thanksgiving, and I was looking to just relax. My parents were downstairs watching their own shows, so I went up to my room. If you read my post, I Still Love Johnny Depp, then you will know that I also love Keira Knightley. So, when I was 12, and first saw Bill Nighy (another love of mine) on the screen, I was like, “Oh how cool, it’s Davy Jones!” Then there was an image of a blurry woman, and I thought, “Is that Keira Knightley?!” And it totally was! I didn’t know either of them were in the film way back then, and I was so excited to find a Christmas-y movie, with two of my favorite actors, at the time.
So, needless to say, I get in the mood to watch this film every time Thanksgiving comes around. Taylor and I both had today off, so we decided to stay up late last night, and watch it. We love to analyze things, so we had a great discussion throughout and after the movie about how amazing it is. Therefore, I decided to share some of my reasoning for why it’s the best with you all:
- Amazing writing. Really, the script could not have been better for this movie. I love how many different characters there are, and how they made them all connected in some way. It’s just beautiful! It’s fun to re-watch and see how everything ties in. And, for having so many characters, it’s really cool how they actually get you hooked on each one’s story and make you care about them in 2 hours and 15 minutes.
- Terrific Cast. Bill Nighy really sells his character. He is just so perfect. But, so does everyone else. I love Alan Rickman and Emma Thompson in this movie. Oh, and also Collin Firth, and Hugh Grant, and Liam Neeson, and Laura Linney. Each of their character’s stories is so relatable – it’s so moving.
- Humanly Love. Okay, so this kind of fits in with the first two bullets, but it’s important enough to have it’s own. I absolutely love seeing how much love every one of these characters has for each other. Yeah, they fall in love quickly. Yeah one of the couples had already seen each other naked. Yeah, one of the couples was two ten year olds. But it is so lovely to see how this love was interpreted. I really enjoy seeing the love between the families, too. All the love really brings a tear to my eye.
- It’s so funny. Yeah, I’m going to keep this bullet short. The movie is hysterical. I love the classic “British humor,” that they have going on. It’s splendid! Also, this song is forever stuck in my head as the holidays start coming around.
What do you think?
If you haven’t watched this movie yet, I highly, HIGHLY recommend it. It is full of sweetness, silliness, sexiness, and sadness. It is a must watch. If you’ve seen it, do you agree with me? What did you like best, (or least), about the film?
Let me know in the comments!
With love and light,
